Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, attacking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.
Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
